Movie Buzz

Problem
Students and employees lack the time necessary to visit the box office and stand in a queue to book a movie ticket and also they have to stand in queues to buy snacks at movie theater. Currently there are no apps that lets you order snacks and book movie at the same time or just order snacks at the theater while watching a movie.
Movie Buzz is a simple and easy-to-use app to book movie tickets and order snacks while watching movies in the theater. This project was a part of google's UX design professional certificate.

Design Process
For user centered design process, I adopted the five stage Design Thinking model.

1
User Research
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working adults who don’t have time to go to the box office and stand in long queues to book movie tickets.
This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Movie buzz customers, but research also revealed that the users not only want to book tickets but also want to buy snacks while watching movies with friends or family. Below are the few pain points which I discovered after the research.

Crazy 8's (Ideation)
Based on the research, I did multiple sessions of crazy-eight exercises for all the use cases. This helped me for laying down the initial ideas for the app. These designs were subject to pivot/change based on the formative and competitive research.

Low Fidelity Prototype
After wireframing I wanted to test the functionality and ticketing booking flow of the app, so I created a basic low fidelity prototype for usability testing.

Usability Testing
Here are the findings uncovered after the usability study
-
Improve the booking process - I found that participants were a bit annoyed that they have to go through about movie to check showtime, participants who already knew what to watch wanted to book directly without any extra information about the movie.
-
Add a CTA in the showtime page - Participants were confused that they have to click on the time to move forward and after clicking on time it went to the next page without any response.
-
Add seat Information- Participants wanted to know what seats they are selecting.

Added movie cards, which shows movie based on user preferences and favorites with CTA to book directly from the home screen
Now after a tap on the book it directly moves to showtime with a different tab to view the movie information and also added a CTA to select seats
Now on tapping the seat, the seat number and category will be shown above the CTA
Learnings
While designing the Movie Buzz app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. The importance of usability studies and how peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app’s designs.
Conduct 2-3 rounds of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed. Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
